Club Activities

Extracurricular involvement is a vital part of the learning experience at Sierra Canyon. Clubs and organizations allow students and their faculty sponsors to engage in shared learning, passion and educational growth outside of the traditional boundaries of the classroom.

Can I start a new club?

Yes! To create a club or organization, students must submit a club registration form, which is available throughout the year from the Upper School Office, and select a faculty advisor.

What makes a club “Active?”

In order to be considered active, a club must meet at least once a month and must sponsor at least one of the following during the school year: an assembly, a lunchtime presentation, a community service project or an on- or off-campus event.

How does a club pay to sponsor/host an event?

Clubs are eligible to apply for monetary grants administered by the Student Government Association to help fund their activities.

How We Can Help

Need support now with applying to uni or student finance? See our guides on how to apply and fees and finance or our information for international students.

If you want to explore many dance styles while using your body and having fun, Dance Club is the place for you! Every 1-2 weeks, Mr. Tretheway will introduce a new dance theme, and sometimes there will be dance/acting games, like charades. So far, the students have learned to dance like animals, the Nutbush dance, and will go into line dancing and other styles very soon.

Science has so many different fields, yet there is not enough timeto learn about all of them. Taught by Mr. Peter, students are conducting many experiments related to biology, physics, and more. Just as the title suggests, this club is the perfect time to cultivate your inner young scientist.

With the weather getting warmer and nicer, we have more of a reason to go out and bask in the springtime sun. Monday and Friday afternoons are the perfect time to explore the Han River and nearby parks, as well as getting in your daily steps. Some say they run/walk 3-4 km per session, but the most important thing is that you’re having fun at your own pace.

Welcome to Chess Club, where you can challenge your fellow schoolmates to this complex but fun game. Even if you are a beginner, this club can be a time for you to grow your skills and knowledge of chess. Whether you are playing or learning the international/Western version or the Korean version, do not be afraid to unleash your inner competitiveness during these intense games.

Photography is a chance to get outside and take many beautiful photos. With Mr. Jeff, students have gone out to neighboring parks experimented with their cameras, and taken photos of different subjects. Not only is it a great chance to learn new skills, but also a chance to walk around and take in the scenery of Seoul.

The high schoolers have been working hard since the beginning of the year to put together our school’s yearbook. They have been looking at photos from various events and field trips, putting together individual pages, and interacting with students and staff. Let’s wish the yearbook team the best of luck with finishing this huge project, and feel free to send them any photos from the school year!

This club is a chance for students to release their inner architect. Using various materials like deformed blocks and popsicle sticks, students can unleash their creativity and build stereotypical or wonky houses and characters. Traces of their work have been spotted in the art room, and they’re looking pretty cool. Let’s wait and see what else they can create in the remaining few months!

Of course, there is a lot of preparation needed and research to be done, but the editors are doing their best to add a little spice to everyone’s boring student lives. Members gather news stories, conduct interviews, and write articles covering various school events, activities, and topics of interest to the student body. Members also collaborate on layout and design, editing, and proofreading before distributing the newspaper to the school community.
